Linux Technology in branches of retail trades

KORONA permits a trouble-free operation in distributed branches of retail trades because of its polished system architecture.

Branches can be equipped with one or more POS and are connected direct or via VPN via Internet.

Master data administration, evaluation and materials management are carried out at one or more workplaces in the head office and are saved in a SQL-database (e.g. Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL-server or Interbase). However, there is an additional possibility to fulfil these tasks at an external office via Internet. For this purpose it is not necessary to install any special software at PCs in the office, because the system is completely operated via web interfaces in the Internet browser. The evaluation can be carried out for the whole company or for every store.

A possible necessary remote maintenance (e.g. for regular system checks or to load updates) is effected via Internet. Normally you can go on cashing during the remote maintenance procedure. KORONA supports top system safety. In case of network problems at one or more POS, the data is saved in the cash points until the troubles are cleared.

Master data is updated in the back office area of the head office and is saved in a SQL-database. The KORONA Replication Service provides POS data in XML-format. This is available to the shops through downloads. Settings of configuration, system data or possible updates are transported to the POS in a similar way but realized through KORONA Distribution Service.

The transaction data produced in the cash points is uploaded and stored in the database of the server by KORONA Spool Service.

The comparison can be carried out permanently, in intervals through time controls or through manual triggers. Master data and configuration data as well as the transaction data is kept in the POS redundantly to the server in XML-format. By this it is not required to have a permanent connection between head office and specialist shop. There are two possibilities of transferring data:

a) The data of sale and stocktaking is transferred immediately to the server, that means directly after money taking. Consequently, current figures are always available to the head office. Extensive evaluations can be made permanently and lively. At the same time, modifications of master data like price adaptations, modifications of slip layouts or the like take effect on the POS. This option is particularly recommended if using Internet flat rates (DSL).

b) The data transfer is set manually, e.g. after office closing time or after change of shifts or automatically, e.g. once a day. Under this condition, booking data and modifications of master data are available after the end of this action.
